A few steps

We’re still waiting on Shade’s ultra-ride, the wheelchair that has been “in the mail” for the last few months. But while Shade waits to roll in style, he practices his walking with his walker … or without it. Here’s a video of him taking a few steps without help. These are his first unassisted steps.

I don’t think he’s quite ready to be a background dancer in an LMFAO video, but it’s a start.

Tonight he’s going to be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Somehow he has managed to keep his grades up despite the fact that his brain is like a cell phone that you rescued out of the washing machine and dried out. It still turns on and manages to do what you need but every once in a while weird things happen to the screen, the signal is constantly dropped and it suddenly shuts down with no warning. Most of the credit goes to patient teachers and his assistant, Mr. Walker, who takes notes and keeps us informed as to what Shade is actually getting. Hopefully, the induction will trigger a response in Shade to take up the mantle of his own studies instead of waiting for his parents to nag him into it.

By the way, keep in mind that this Friday, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the Ocoee Farmers Market in Downtown Ocoee at McKey Street & Bluford Avenue, sponsored by the Ocoee Lions Club. If you want to rent a booth, click here to download the application. Proceeds from booth rentals will help toward Shade’s wheelchair and other therapies. Also, we’ll have a booth there where we’ll be having some cool stuff to sell.
